Home Sweet Home

As I was packing to leave Vegas, Cooper bolted down the street and almost got hit by two cars before I finally nabbed him.

Call me the Bluuuurrrrr
I guess someone isn't excited to go back to school.

Jon and I had fun on our last day in Vegas with dinner at Lola's Louisiana Kitchen, games at Insert Coin, and a visit to the lobby/bar of the Artisan Hotel Boutique. The Artisan is right off the strip and has a haunted feel. The bar features creppy movies on their TVs. Check it out on your next visit, I doubt most out-of-towners know about it.
Artisan Hotel

I tried to get the scoop on the history of the hotel.
Me: How old is this place?
Bartender: Like 10 years old. It used to be a Travelodge.
Me: A Travelodge? That's lame. At least tell me it was a haunted Travelodge or featured a good ol' fashioned murder suicide.
Bartender: Well, it was really run-down.
Me: Hmph

Reminds me of when I asked Grandma Johnson where the traditional Christmas Swedish Meatball recipe came from.

A cooking magazine.

Tomorrow I'm helping out at first year orientation! Oh the memories.

Shabby chic

Yay for Vegas! I can stand this 100 degree heat better than 90 degrees + humidity.
To beat the heat, Cooper got a summer hair cut today.
Before-shabby chic

Hair cut-best way to lose 5 pounds.

Light are on but....
Today I also tried these:

What the heck, it's summer and a fun print is in order. They actually were pretty easy to use and turned out nice! I'd do it again for sure. Just make sure you don't cut your nails too short, it makes it hard to file away the excess.

Jon, some friends, and myself went to trivia night at McMullan's yesterday. We were killin' the questions and then the night took a dangerous turn. The ultimate question which could make or break my career was asked.

"From brown to blue, which pigment makes up the colored portion of your iris?"  All eyes turned to me (no pun intended).

No pressure.

Answer: "Umm......melanin?"

We ended up middle of the pack among maybe 25 teams.

I also had fun 2 nights ago with my new bike helmet.
My head was too big with my ponytail

Ready to hit the bike trails

Just kidding about the bike part. I'm actually training this summer to fly F-16s to test how high wind speeds and altitude can dry out your contacts. It's all very hush hush.

Farewell to NY

I am back in Vegas! Sayonara New York.

My research turned out well and I was happy to have had the experience. I may have the chance to present my summer research as a poster during a conference this year or publish it. Maybe this means more research in my future, teaching, etc. Who knows?! Maybe I'll just stay home and dogsit. It's a hard job but someone has to do it.
Tiffany hid her socks so I'm going to pout all day

I was a little sad to leave NY during my last week. My pity party dwindled away by the end of it. I was stopped on the street and asked "could you do me the biggest favor in the whole entire world....". NO I will not give you money. I sweated to death without AC. I paid mucho $ to wash my laundry in the basement that once caught on fire. A guy mumbled at me utter nonsense. I saw a group of 20 or so people walk onto the subway without paying. The bus driver gave me sass. SEE YA NEW YORK! For those who do not know my sarcastic attitude, take what I say with a grain of salt. I had an awesome time overall. Walking around Vegas today seemed so...empty. Where are all the peeps?

In the next few days I'll  post about some of my final NY outings with Katie B., Forough, and Mr. Softie!

Jon is really busy at work, so I took time today to bake a dessert from Peas and Thank You. Albertson's didn't have everything I needed, so the bars turned out half organic/vegan and half regular. Still very tasty!

Magic Bars-graham cracker crust, chocolate chips, pecans, condensed milk made with soy milk, organic coconut

I'm also trying rutabega fries with dinner from PB Fingers. I'll let you know how I like them!

I picked up these Ginger Root Beer Zevia sodas from 'berts. Pretty good and didn't taste "fake". Not addicting enough to want every day though.

Until tomorrow!

Say what?

I ended up missing two days of work last week. Dr. Sedgwick sent me home on Wednesday and I didn't start feeling better until Saturday. My roommate said she knew I was still alive when she heard me cough.

My friend Forough moved in with us for the rest of the week so it's nice to have a buddy to hang with. Today we went to Pinkberry and got groceries.

At Pinkberry I was telling the man which toppings I want, pointed to the chocolate chips, and said "but not too much". As he was finishing he took a giant scoop of some other random topping and handed me my treat. I gave him a puzzled look. Then I realized my sickly man voice made "not too much" sound like "more chocolate crunch". Oh well. It was still delish.

I have my paper due this Thursday and my presentation on Friday. Yikes! Then I fly to Vegas on Saturday to see the boys again: Jon and Coop!

Time to get a little work done now so I can look forward to the next two nights of Bachelorette madness.

Stick Stickly

Stick Stickly

Remember him?

Ahh, the good ol' days of summers off and Nickelodeon shows. Flashlight tag (come home when the street lights turn on!), lanyards, day camp, pretty pretty princess. Anyone else play that game? Cue my little brother with snap on earrings and a crown. At least they were the blue earrings.
This morning I awoke and was Sick Sickly.  Bad sore throat and runny nose. Thank you to whoever spread their germies to me. I walked like a zombie to the subway today. Not a pretty pretty princess.
